Jason Statham is my favorite action guy right now. He actually has some acting ability coupled with making you believe he really can kick butt of a 25 bad guy onslaught at any given time. The screenplay was written by Sylvester Stallone, but he didn't star in it and that is a good thing. Time to be behind the scenes for Stallone, who did a pretty good job with this story. It's a guy action movie and while predictable with the usual, we all really liked it - a lot!
Phil Broker (Statham) is an undercover DEA agent that goes into early retirement after a bust goes south. To jail the bad guys go and the ringleader promises revenge. So while the bust went south, Phil heads south also - to live. Settled into a southern sleepy small town with his 9-year-old daughter (Isabella Vidovic) he finds solace. Though not for long as the rednecks emerge by the droves, all with big mouths and big fists. A call from school sets into motion the issues at hand. The hard-hitting Broker is confronted there by mouthy parent Cassie Bodine, convincingly played by Kate Bosworth. Cassie is ticked at Phil's little girl who smacked down her son at school disregarding the fact that he was taunting her. Unfortunately, Cassie's local loser brother Gator (James Franco) who is a small time drug dealer, sniffs out Broker's past. Not good because Gator, along with his sleaze bag girlfriend Sheryl (Wynona Ryder), see this as their opportunity to bring Phil's past into the equation. Wanting revenge for Cassie is how it started, but now the pair are looking to expand their drug operation. This could prove to be a huge error for everyone all around as Phil Broker is one tough guy. I diid mention predictable, but it was still a wild finale that makes Homefront really worth watching.
